Announcing Spyder3Print v3.5 Public Beta 2
|
The second Public Beta of Spyder3Print v3.5 is now available from our Downloads Section. This version offers a number of improvements made with the feedback from those who tested the first Public Beta. These include clarifications to the Workflow Options (as illustrated) so that users will be more clear on the the difference between the Advanced Workflow (offering all the features from previous versions) versus the Easy Workflow (with its more simplifed set of steps). This version makes measuring even faster, adding to the measurement speed increases in the first Public Beta. And finally, Public Beta 2 allows Non-Administative Users on the Mac to run the software from their Non-Admin User accounts, a feature recently added to Spyder3Pro and Elite software as well.

|
The second Public Beta also offers significantly faster download times, due to decreased Help file sizes. If you use Spyder3Print or PrintFIX PRO, please download this new software version, and give it a try (using your existing software serial number). Finalized translations for changes to the application and it's help files will be added before the Final Release version is produced.
Expert Advice
Saving Even More Time with CheckCAL™
|
Spyder3Pro™ and Spyder3Elite™ use ReCAL™ to provide fast recalibration of displays. But to save even more time users with stable, consistant displays can choose the CheckCAL option. CheckCAL measures a basic series of color patches, and compares them to your previous calibration. It then displays Current, Previous, and Target values for items that may be included in your target such as Gamma, Whitepoint, White and Black Level, and Ambient Light. CheckCAL takes less than a minute, and saves time for displays that are consistant and stable, and which prove to not need recalibration frequently. For displays which are less stable, and which tend to fail the CheckCAL diagnostic, running ReCAL initially, and skipping the CheckCAL step may actually save time.

Resizing Paths Trick
If you've drawn a path, and want it bigger, smaller, etc., get the Path Component Selection Tool (the solid black arrow tool--but NOT the Move tool), and when you click on your path, look up in the Options Bar. You'll see a checkbox for "Show Bounding Box". Click on it, and a Free Transform like bounding box will appear around you path, enabling you to click and drag your path to your desired size.

Testimonial
"One of the best digital color control products is the Datacolor Spyder3, specifically Datacolor's Spyder3 Studio. I use this on my workstation monitor, plus the monitor attached to a printer, and I calibrate monthly. I know photographers who do this print test process because they've not mastered a system that works. Maintaining integrity of the look, from vision to final print, is imperative. Proper color system calibration can be a huge time-saver, not to mention far less hassle without surprises. If you don't calibrate your system it's like using a film camera and not knowing the ISO of the film, then trying to make proper exposures – everything is a guess!"
